Job Title: Senior Policy Officer - Mental Health

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Policy Officer to join our State Mental Health Team. The successful candidate will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement policies related to mental health and crises.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality, well-researched advice to senior management on issues affecting policing intersections with mental health and crises.
  • Develop effective policy options and strategies to address these issues.
  • Contribute to the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of Whole of Government strategies and Queensland Police Service strategic and operational plans related to policing intersections with mental health and crises.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and review policies, legislation, and practices across Government and within the Queensland Police Service that impact on policing intersections with mental health and crises.
  • Prepare correspondence, briefings, and submissions for senior management, the Minister, Cabinet, and other diverse audiences regarding policing intersections with mental health and crises.
  • Produce timely and accurate information to evaluate programs, provide a basis for planning and policy development, and assess legislative impacts on policing intersections with mental health and crises.
Requirements:
  • Subject matter knowledge of Mental Health, including legislation (e.g., the Mental Health Act).
  • Ability to advocate for and negotiate QPS mental health policing strategic and operational priorities with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to present to audiences from diverse backgrounds.
