About the Role

The Animal Welfare Officer is responsible for overseeing the health and wellbeing of animals within our facilities. This role requires exceptional veterinary skills, strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, and a deep understanding of animal ethics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Expert Veterinary Support

Provide expert support for animal-related experiments, ensuring the highest standards of animal care and welfare.

Collaboration and Teamwork

Promote a collaborative environment between animal care staff, investigators, and animal user groups, fostering open communication and mutual respect.

Animal Welfare Assessment

Assess animal welfare and environmental indicators, identifying areas for improvement and implementing effective solutions.

Protocol Development

Develop and update protocols for animal welfare and veterinary services, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.

Support and Training

Support Investigators and animal user groups in Animal Ethics Applications and reporting, providing training and guidance as needed.

Representation and Incident Management

Represent the organization at monthly Animal Ethics Committee meetings, investigating and managing adverse incidents, and reporting to the AEC.

Facility Inspections

Inspect animal facilities regularly to ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
