Leading the way in foreign affairs and trade, we seek skilled professionals to fill key roles.

As a First Assistant Secretary, you will be responsible for leading and managing a division, setting objectives and priorities, and representing the department with key stakeholders and external organizations.

You will work across the organization to deliver outcomes, promoting and modelling an inclusive culture.

Strong leadership skills in managing resources and enhancing organizational capability are essential.

A thorough understanding of Commonwealth agency operations and highly developed knowledge of the department's strategic vision are required.

Depending on the role, you may be responsible for aspects of Australia's international development program, including the management of Official Development Assistance (ODA).

Leadership roles may involve addressing strategic challenges through policy development and leading strategic initiatives.

Self-motivated, agile, and strategic thinkers are required to build relationships in a complex environment.

Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgement and stakeholder engagement skills are necessary.

Ability to deliver large-scale reform and demonstrated experience in managing complex projects and/or programs in challenging environments are also required.

Proven ability to brief Senior Executives, Ministers and Stakeholders is essential.
