Senior Laboratory Operations Manager

The primary objective of the Senior Laboratory Operations Manager is to ensure the efficient operation of the laboratory, meeting the highest standards of quality and safety. This role requires close collaboration with the Business Unit Manager to establish clear goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, ensuring smooth workflow and effective resource allocation.
  • Prepare detailed monthly reports on costs and productivity, providing actionable insights for management.
  • Develop and implement strategies for maintaining optimal consumable stock levels, minimizing waste and optimizing resources.
  • Perform regular equipment maintenance and calibration, ensuring accuracy and precision in test results.
  • Design and deliver training programs for employees, trainees, and lower technical staff, focusing on QHSE principles and best practices.
  • Coordinate the workflow to meet customer expectations, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality results.
  • Plan, write, and deliver comprehensive training programs for employees, covering topics such as quality control, assurance, and occupational health and safety.
  • Supervise routine test work within established guidelines and priorities, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Act as the main liaison with existing clients, ensuring their needs are met and exceeded.
  • Lead and supervise a team of laboratory professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain and update work and accommodation rosters, ensuring accurate scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Drive the team to achieve daily production targets, supporting them in overcoming challenges and improving performance.
  • Provide on-the-job training and coaching to team members, helping them develop new skills and competencies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to review processes and identify opportunities for improvement, focusing on safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Assist in investigating non-conformances and root cause analysis, driving corrective action and process improvements.
Requirements:
  • Profound knowledge of ISO 17025 standards and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory procedures, sampling techniques, and quality control principles.
  • Able to manage large teams in fast-paced laboratory environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize structured competency-based training programs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on building strong relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, with a strong sense of accountability and ownership.
  • Capacity to prioritize tasks effectively, managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills, with a focus on delivering results under pressure.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire team members to achieve exceptional outcomes.
