Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fleet Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a key member of our Operations Department, you will be responsible for ensuring the operational fleet is properly maintained to support the delivery of waste removal and cleansing services across the community.
This exciting role plays a vital part in keeping the Street & Beach, Waste Management, and Resource Recovery equipment running efficiently. The successful candidate will work closely with our Streets and Beach Services team to provide essential fleet maintenance support for some of the largest, most complex, and high-profile services delivered by Council.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, service and repair operational fleet in a dynamic environment.
- Diagnostics and repair engines, transmissions, components, electrical and fuel systems.
- Perform tune-ups, brake jobs and preventative maintenance on street and beach equipment.
- Ability to perform complex diagnostic procedures on all vehicle systems and determine appropriate maintenance and repairs.
- Effective use of hand tools and automotive diagnostic equipment.
- Cleaning and maintaining vehicles and following plant maintenance and reporting procedures.
- Maintain and update asset service documentation.
- Minimise running costs through preventative maintenance work.
- Source parts and external service contractors as required.
- Attend off-site vehicle/plant breakdowns as needed.
- Maintain the mechanic workshop in a clean and safe condition.
- Assist with evaluating and road testing plant and equipment.
- Support other employees within the unit as required.
- Participate in induction and training programs as needed.
Requirements:
- Trade qualifications and experience in servicing and maintaining heavy plant and equipment, passenger vehicles and small plant and equipment.
- Ability to organise workloads to achieve position objectives.
- Experienced in operating specialised machinery such as milling machines and lathes.
- Competent in welding with both MIG and arc welders.
- Current drivers and HR truck licenses (required), Front End Loader, Forklift Licence (Desirable).
- Ability to perform complex diagnostic procedures on all vehicle systems and determine appropriate maintenance and repairs.
- Understanding of vehicle safety standards and compliance with government regulations.
