Information and Privacy Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Information and Privacy Officer to join our team at the NSW Government. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for managing all right to information requests, providing expert advice and guidance to staff, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the end-to-end process for all right to information requests, including determining decisions under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 and responding to orders for production.
- Provide expert advice, support, and guidance to staff in relation to the GIPA legislative responsibilities and requirements.
- Fulfill the role of designated Privacy Officer for the organization and establish a robust privacy management system to embed processes and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Conduct investigations into complaints about potential privacy breaches and make findings and recommendations.
- Support privacy internal reviews in accordance with the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 and the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998.
- Develop and maintain resources for internal and external stakeholders about right to information requests and privacy.
- Provide education and training to all staff about right to information and privacy.
- Maintain transparent records of all work undertaken, ensuring accuracy and relevance of data, to assist in the reporting and compliance requirements for information and privacy.
- Prepare annual privacy and GIPA reports and statistics to comply with reporting requirements.
- Coordinate reporting obligations regarding public interest disclosures.

- Tertiary qualifications in law or a related discipline or significant demonstrated experience with privacy and information release within medium/large organizations.
