About the Role

This is a permanent full-time opportunity available in the Billing and Recovery team at Townsville City Council. The successful candidate will be responsible for administration and customer service functions, primarily using the Property and Rating database.

The role supports the Billing and Recovery Section to produce accurate and timely half-yearly rates notices and supplementary rate notices, and ensures the prompt and accurate resolution of customer queries and requests.

About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced administrative and customer service professional who can confidently understand and apply knowledge of Council's financial policies and rating structures, Local Government statutory regulations, established guidelines, procedures, methods, and practices.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Certificate IV in Business or similar relevant qualification is highly desirable.
  • Experience within an administrative or customer service role with a multi-faceted workflow and dynamic/adaptable team.
  • Experience in a Local Government or Utilities billing services industry is highly regarded.
  • Ability to interpret client needs, and apply knowledge, relevant policies, legislation, and established guidelines to determine and undertake appropriate course of action.
  • High standard of written and verbal communication skills and the ability to produce accurate and professional correspondence and reports.
  • Intermediate skills in the use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) as well as knowledge of other billing databases and record management programs.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organisational skills to work efficiently both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to demonstrate a positive and constructive attitude to both internal and external customers, and display empathy while dealing with difficult or demanding customers.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills including the ability to use your own initiative and knowledge to find and recommend solutions to problems within the workplace.
