Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Atlassian Full time
About Atlassian

At Atlassian, we empower our employees to choose their work environment – whether it be in an office, remotely, or a hybrid of both. This flexibility allows our team members to better manage their personal and professional commitments. We have the capability to hire talent globally, wherever we maintain a legal presence. Our interview and onboarding processes are conducted online, reflecting our commitment to a distributed-first approach. This role is fully remote, but candidates must reside in Australia or New Zealand.

We are in search of a reliability specialist who is enthusiastic about enhancing Cloud services to join our expanding Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about contemporary industry trends, particularly those concerning reliability, and values collaboration with a diverse range of partners. You should be able to articulate the business implications of challenges while also delving into technical solutions. A profound understanding of modern Cloud infrastructure, programming skills, operational experience, and a commitment to innovation are essential.

We seek an engineer capable of analyzing and enhancing our services and processes to elevate our reliability, performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. You will achieve this by collaborating across teams and functions to advocate for reliability methodologies, working alongside various platform, product, and SRE teams to embed reliability into our systems and promote these practices within our products. In essence, you will be a catalyst for transformation.

Your reporting line will be to the Senior Engineering Manager for Jira SRE in the APAC region.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Oversee the creation of high-level technical architecture for multiple teams.
  2. Collaborate with your Engineering Manager and fellow Principal Engineers to establish a vision and roadmap for the organization.
  3. Foster trusting relationships with stakeholders both within your immediate team and across the broader organization.
  4. Encourage high engineering standards within your team.
  5. Facilitate the professional development of software engineers through technical mentorship.
  6. Design and implement scalable solutions.
Required Qualifications
  1. Expert-level proficiency with over 8 years of experience in one or more major programming languages such as Java, Go, or Python.
  2. Expert-level proficiency with over 5 years of experience in public cloud services (AWS components like EC2, CloudFormation, RDS/Aurora, Caches, SQS, or their equivalents in GCP/Azure).
  3. Expert-level proficiency with over 5 years of experience in managing high-availability, fault-tolerant, scalable, distributed software in production: integrating monitoring into your code, refining dashboards, defining alerts, and creating runbooks.
  4. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical issues to diverse audiences (management, peers, clients).
  5. A strong desire and capability to mentor and coach fellow engineers.
