Job Title: Principal Control Systems Engineer, Power

At WSP, we are seeking a highly skilled Principal Control Systems Engineer to join our Generation & New Energy team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the design of industrial control systems and collaborating with electrical engineers to design electrical protection systems for power stations.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from thermal and renewable generation to transmission and distribution. You will have the chance to work with talented professionals and clients to explore the viability and feasibility of emerging energy generation alternatives.

As a Principal Control Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise in power generation, including thermal and renewable generation. You will also be responsible for undertaking and leading design of power station control and instrumentation systems, including PLC and DCS based systems, functional safety systems, and EEHA designs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise in power generation, including thermal and renewable generation
  • Undertake and lead design of power station control and instrumentation systems
  • Conduct and lead design of control and protection system communication systems
  • Collaborate in design of power station secondary systems
  • Accountable for electrical engineering analysis and undertakings
  • Coach others in the identification and management of ethical issues
  • Proactively maintain effective networks and relevant industry relationships
  • Seek information to understand client needs and effectively anticipate and meet client needs
  • Review and verify engineering drawings and reports
  • Provide expert technical input to a diverse range of projects
  • Responsibility for client satisfaction and loyalty
  • Establishes project scope, time, and cost management systems
  • Provides technical leads on multiple projects of varying complexity and size
  • Establishes project quality and risk management systems
  • Establishes project communications and integration systems
  • Mentor junior engineers in technical, project delivery, and client relationships
  • Provide technical review of work performed by the team
  • Assist team managers and executives in the selection and recruitment of employees

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Engineering) or Equivalent
  • Chartered status CPENG and registered (RPEQ, RPEV)
  • Significant experience in thermal and renewable generation
  • Demonstrated delivery of several complex power generation projects
  • Extensive relevant experience with some time spent within a consultancy
  • Demonstrated competence in providing key technical expertise across a broad range of high-profile projects
  • Competent in managing risk on substantial projects
  • High level skills in applying safety in design practices and processes
  • Demonstrated multiple instances of delivering best client outcomes/options which have saved the client costs/time
  • Established a recognised profile within industry associations
  • Competent in monitoring and managing the scope of multiple projects of varying complexity and size
  • Prepares and reviews high level and complex technical reports
  • Experience in business development
  • Extensive experienced in applying QA and OH&S systems
  • Experience in supervising graduates and managing engineers and senior engineers
  • Strong experience in client relationships
  • Built technical capability of others (training & mentoring) and transferred technical expertise within the organisation
