Principal Control Systems Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Control Systems Engineer to join our team at WSP Global Inc. in Australia. As a key member of our Generation & New Energy team, you will play a critical role in enhancing our capabilities and reputation.
You will collaborate with talented professionals on iconic projects to drive future-ready outcomes that benefit clients and communities. Your expertise will be instrumental in leading the design of industrial control systems and communication systems, as well as collaborating on the design of electrical protection systems for power stations.
As a technical leader, you will provide expert technical input to a diverse range of projects, ensuring that they meet WSP's quality system and client requirements. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing technical expertise in power generation, with a focus on thermal and renewable generation.
- Undertaking and leading design of power station control and instrumentation systems, including PLC and DCS based systems.
- Conducting and leading design of control and protection system communication systems, including DCS data highways and IEC 61850 protection networks.
- Collaborating in design of power station secondary systems, including electrical protection systems and excitation systems.
- Accountable for electrical engineering analysis and undertakings, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards and relevant regulatory acts of legislation and best practice.
You will also be responsible for:
- Coaching others in the identification and management of ethical issues associated with your area of work or practice area.
- Establishing project scope, time, and cost management systems.
- Providing technical leads on multiple projects of varying complexity and size.
- Mentoring junior engineers in technical, project delivery, and client relationships.
- Providing technical review of work performed by the team.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in electrical engineering, specifically in power generation and control systems. You should have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent, and be chartered with a professional engineering organization. Your experience should include:
- Significant experience in thermal and renewable generation.
- Demonstrated delivery of several complex power generation projects.
- Extensive relevant experience with some time spent within a consultancy.
- Demonstrated competence in providing key technical expertise across a broad range of high-profile projects.
- Competent in managing risk on substantial projects.
