Principal Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Engineer - Traffic Systems to join our team at The State Of Queensland. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of our road network, focusing on the application of traffic signals and intelligent transport systems to improve capacity, reduce congestion, and maintain safety.
Key Responsibilities:- Project manage the development and implementation of complex traffic management systems, technologies, and analysis.
- Provide advice and submissions on all aspects of road network signalised and un-signalised intersections, and other active traffic management systems such as smart motorways.
- Apply relevant standards, policies, guidelines, and legislative requirements to support responsible decisions and courses of action for the operation and effective usage of the road traffic infrastructure and control systems.
- Identify and manage networks and alliances of stakeholders, manage expectations and issues, and ensure timely and professional handling of high-risk matters.
- Work with and maintain close relationships with PDO regions/districts, PMD, Road Tek, local government, other government agencies, and industry stakeholders to ensure network performance gains.
- Supervise a multi-disciplinary team to ensure all members are appropriately skilled and utilised, and deliver outcomes that support the branch's objectives and strategic priorities.
- Significant experience in traffic engineering, including analytical modelling, Intelligent Transport Systems, and traffic management systems and standards.
- Strong analytical and technical skills to foster continuous improvement in the efficiency of systems and technologies.
- Well-developed interpersonal and communications skills to articulate complex problems and solutions to various audiences and gain commitment from key stakeholders.
- Foster a working environment that exemplifies professionalism, integrity, and respect for people, while building team capability by sharing learning and mentoring and coaching other staff.
- Proactively build long-term working relationships with partners inside and outside the department.
- A criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
- Possession of a degree in civil engineering or equivalent engineering qualification acceptable for corporate membership of Engineers Australia.
- Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ).
- Current holder of Class C driver's license.
