About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Control Systems Engineer to join our team at WSP Global Inc. in Australia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise in power generation, including thermal and renewable generation, with a focus on delivering complex projects with gas turbines, coal-fired power stations, and hydro power stations.
  • Lead the design of power station control and instrumentation systems, including PLC and DCS based systems, functional safety systems, and EEHA designs.
  • Conduct and lead design of control and protection system communication systems, including DCS data highways, control system networks, and IEC 61850 protection networks.
  • Collaborate in the design of power station secondary systems, including electrical protection systems and excitation systems.
  • Accountable for electrical engineering analysis and undertakings, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards and relevant regulatory acts of legislation and best practice.
  • Coach others in the identification and management of ethical issues associated with the area of work or practice area.
  • Proactively maintain effective networks and relevant industry relationships to gain cooperation in meeting business and client outcomes.
  • Seek information to understand client needs and effectively anticipate and meet client needs and encourage client focus on colleagues.
  • Review and verify engineering drawings and reports.
  • Provide expert technical input to a diverse range of projects in line with WSP quality system and client requirements.
  • Responsibility for client satisfaction and loyalty for the area of expertise.
  • Establish project scope, time, and cost management systems.
  • Coach others in managing competing demands.
  • Provide technical leads on multiple projects of varying complexity and size.
  • Establish project quality and risk management systems.
  • Establish project communications and integration systems.
  • Mentor junior engineers in technical, project delivery, and client relationships.
  • Provide technical review of work performed by the team.
  • Assist team managers and executives in the selection and recruitment of employees.
  • Comply with all role-specific SHEQ obligations.
About You
  • Bachelor's Degree (Engineering) or Equivalent.
  • Chartered status CPENG and registered (RPEQ, RPEV).
  • Significant experience in thermal and renewable generation.
  • Demonstrated delivery of several complex power generation projects.
  • Extensive relevant experience with some time spent within a consultancy.
  • Demonstrated competence in providing key technical expertise across a broad range of high-profile projects.
  • Competent in managing risk on substantial projects.
  • High-level skills in applying safety in design practices and processes.
  • Demonstrated multiple instances of delivering best client outcomes/options which have saved the client costs/time.
  • Established a recognised profile within industry associations.
  • Competent in monitoring and managing the scope of multiple projects of varying complexity and size.
  • Prepares and reviews high-level and complex technical reports.
  • Experience in business development.
  • Extensive experience in applying QA and OH&S systems.
  • Experience in supervising graduates and managing engineers and senior engineers.
  • Strong experience in client relationships.
  • Built technical capability of others (training & mentoring) and transferred technical expertise within the organisation.
