Job RoleThe Laboratory Technician will support the Quality and Compliance Manager to coordinate laboratory activities. This includes testing product samples, managing batch sampling and traceability, while fostering a positive work environment.
This fixed-term contract will run for 12 months, with operational hours as Monday to Thursday, 9 hours, Friday, 4 hours.
Duties and Responsibilities- Coordinate product sample testing adhering to accredited standards based on specified test plans, ensuring accurate results entry into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Direct and/or complete adjustments for product samples to ensure they meet specifications.
- Collaborate with production team members to resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Minimize non-compliant products and identify areas for improvement where required.
- Support NATA accreditation through proficiency testing.
- Ensure sample retention is collected, catalogued, and stored as per APAS requirements.
- Initiate and ensure completion of assigned Corrective Action requests (CARs) in a timely manner.
- Test road tanker quality and ensure unloading into the correct bulk tanks.
- Take samples from bulk vessels for biological testing.
- Lead safety initiatives within the laboratory by being proactive on safety issues, adhering to safe work procedures, and participating in safety discussions.
- Ability to follow test procedures precisely and record results accurately.
- Ability to interpret test results and make appropriate adjustments to products.
- Ability to correctly use engineering controls for hazardous materials including flammable liquids, corrosive materials, CMR substances, STOT substances, and skin and respiratory irritants to minimize exposure.
- Intermediate computer skills including MS Office Packages.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to lift (occasionally) materials up to 15 Kg as an individual, higher weights as part of group lifting.
- Familiarity with laboratory systems and practices.
- Current Driver's Licence.
- Forklift licence (preferred).
