About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Cost Estimator to join our team at M&T Resources. As a Cost Estimator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of large-scale construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare project estimates in accordance with industry best practices and strict adherence to company processes and procedures.
  • Determine the total cost of materials, labor, and equipment required for complex construction projects.
  • Analyze indirect and overhead costs using prescribed staff rates or develop reasonable and demonstrable benchmark rates as required.
  • Ensure team alignment across regions adhering to best practice and overall functional requirements to meet customer needs.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to ensure the required information is obtained.
  • Develop Pricing Schedules for price build and contract documentation in line with Major Projects WBS structure.
  • Obtain market price for specialist contractors and supply of materials by preparing documents for tendering and bid purposes.
  • Provide expert support on pre-qualification and pre-bid submissions.
  • Ensure that relevant documents and budgets are submitted before a bid deadline.
  • Perform cost analyses on Contractor pricing submissions, determine the duration of a project, procure vendors and subcontractors, and ensure that resources are managed and deadlines are met.
  • Build and maintain competitive pricing schedule databases, ensuring that WHS, Community, and environmental issues are integrated into the development of cost plans.
  • Establish project key benchmarking from past completed projects.
  • Participate in Risk Workshops for the development of Inherent Risk profile to price build, leading to Quantitative Risk Analysis determination of contingency position.
  • Regularly report to management and keep stakeholders updated on the project status.
  • Keep track of the latest estimating technology and industry-related techniques.
  • Support the cost control and contracts team in managing projects through delivery, including undertaking site visits/inspections and working in a change control environment evaluating variation/compensation events.
  • Participate in Project Post reviews and resulting actions to continuously improve estimating processes.
  • Assist project teams to ensure that client delivers project outcomes as expected by our customers.
Key Challenges

Ensuring cost estimating and inherent risk analysis are undertaken for projects valued up to $1B.

Managing a heavy workload with tight deadlines and competing commitments and priorities which require negotiating and continual re-prioritizing of own work.

Challenging Contractor price build (for Option C or Alliance contracts).

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, civil or architectural engineering, construction management, or an equivalent.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as an estimator in the construction field, with demonstrable experience in the Government industry or other highly regulated industries beneficial.
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative Schedule Risk Assessment.
  • Extensive knowledge of best industry practices and standards.
  • Demonstrable experience of construction site working and construction logistics.
  • Experience of working in highly regulated environments under strict HS&E codes.
  • Experience in research, proposal writing, and oral presentation to senior management, external stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and agencies.
  • Demonstrable interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced computer skills and ability to use estimating and measurement software accurately and quickly.
  • Proven business acumen and experience in driving innovation and best practice in cost estimation.
  • Ability to drive.

Please note that you will work from our clients' Parramatta office. There will also be WFH flexibility provided as part of this position – 3 days in office, 2 days from home.
