Job Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Animal Care Professional to join our team. This is a permanent full-time role based in Victoria.

This position involves leadership, animal care, analysis, research and advice. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising a small team, promoting safety, leading team talks, and completing orientation and training of new staff members.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum two years' experience in a similar role in piggery operations, with experience supervising a small team. They will also have demonstrated experience in pig production, a high level of understanding of herd health factors, and competent knowledge of APIQ & Welfare Standards.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Animal Care Team: Supervise a small team of Animal Care Professionals; promote a safe working environment; lead team meetings; complete training of new staff members.
  • Animal Care: Tend to routine animal husbandry; clean and maintain accommodation pens, fittings and equipment; handle and use chemicals; operate machinery and equipment; provide feed and water for stock; care for sick or injured stock and maintain herd health status at an acceptable level.
  • Analysis, Research and Advice: Maintain high standards of quality; inspect effectiveness of feeding systems; assist in controlled breeding to develop improved livestock strains; arrange supply of drugs, vaccines and other chemicals; advise on aspects of production processes and farming techniques.
Requirements
  • Minimum two years' experience in a similar role in piggery operations; experience supervising a small team.
  • Demonstrated experience in pig production; high level of understanding of herd health factors.
  • Competent knowledge of APIQ & Welfare Standards; strong communication skills.
