About The Job

Animal welfare is a vital component of our community's fabric. As an animal ambulance driver, you will be at the forefront of this effort.

This role is crucial to ensuring the safe transport of domestic animals and livestock to appropriate facilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Receiving jobs via the council's after-hours service and acknowledging them promptly
  • Attending to stray, contained, injured, and wandering large domestic animals and livestock within your designated area
  • Confidently handling all animals to guarantee their safety and well-being
  • Liaising with members of the public, council representatives, and external stakeholders, including the police and veterinary clinics, both in person and over the phone
  • Preparing accurate reports with a strong emphasis on attention to detail
  • Maintaining equipment and vehicles

Requirements:

  • A certificate in Animal Studies or relevant qualifications (desired)
  • A current driver's license, held for more than 1 year, with a proven track record of safe driving
  • Excellent animal handling skills, including confidence with high-risk dogs and livestock
  • Experience working with animals in a shelter environment (desired)
  • Flexibility to work after hours, overnight, weekends, and/or public holidays
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivation and confidence to work independently at night, traveling varying distances within set response times
  • Exceptional customer service and problem-solving skills
  • A passion for animal welfare
