Leadership Role - Special Education

Bardia Public School is a unique K-6 educational institution in Sydney, Australia. It has an enrolment of 1000 students and a positive school culture underpinned by three core values: achievement, belonging, and care.

The school has a Support Unit for students with additional needs, including two Autism and two Autism IO classes. Approximately 72% of students have a language background other than English, and 3% identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

We value collaboration highly. Staff are given time to engage with pedagogies and work alongside our senior staff to develop quality teaching and learning cycles. This includes personalised professional learning for all staff members.

Selection Criteria:

  • Authorisation to teach special education and/or experience in leading support unit staff to deliver high-quality individualised supports, learning plans, and strategies.
  • A highly visible, approachable, and collaborative leader with a proven ability to build relationships and partnerships with students, families, the wider community, and the team around students.
  • Demonstrated capacity and capability to lead school initiatives promoting student wellbeing and development in a safe and inclusive school environment.

General Selection Criteria:

  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning, and classroom practice.
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment, and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
  3. Leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.
  4. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff, and parents.
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to Departmental policies.
