Role Description

You'll be a critical part of guiding project teams, identifying architectural improvements, and playing a key role in defining our search technology strategy.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams, building trust and helping them overcome challenges.
  • Communicate our search technology strategy, working with technical leadership to define Dovetail's vision for search and insights extraction.
  • Identify and solve systemic technical challenges, improving search architecture and working closely with product leadership to explore solutions.
  • Design and implement advanced search systems, architecting scalable indexing pipelines, query understanding systems, and relevance tuning mechanisms.
  • Advocate for engineering quality, supporting team members in understanding performance expectations and preventing issues in search accuracy, latency, and relevance.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • Extensive experience building search systems, designing and implementing search infrastructure using technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, or vector databases.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex search architectures and articulate query performance vs. relevance tradeoffs.
  • Experience managing complex search infrastructure, designing and delivering complex search features, optimizing indexing pipelines, and providing reasonable performance estimates.
  • Ability to teach others, mentoring junior team members to learn search best practices and information retrieval concepts.
  • Pragmatic and flexible, comfortable with ambiguity in search requirements and able to adjust to shifting customer search needs.
