Toora Women Inc is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing safe and respectful support to women impacted by domestic and family violence, homelessness, the criminal justice system, and/or alcohol and drug dependency.

Job Summary

The Board Chair will play a critical role in leading the organization's governance and strategic direction. This is a unique opportunity to join a team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about making a positive impact in the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Governance
    • Provide effective leadership and collaborate with the CEO to articulate the organization's values, vision, mission, and strategies.
    • Develop strategic plans and order strategic priorities to achieve agreed-upon objectives.
    • Maintain an organizational structure to support the achievement of strategic objectives.
  • Financial Accountability
    • Monitor the performance of the CEO against agreed-upon performance indicators.
    • Be advised of the business plans and annual budget proposed by the CEO.
    • Monitor the achievement of strategic and business plans and annual budget outcomes.
  • Employer Responsibilities
    • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
    • Discharge the duties of a responsible person, as outlined by the ACNC.
    • Understand WHS due diligence as an Officer of a PCBU.
  • Broad Service Delivery Policy Setting
    • Provide strategic direction and oversight to ensure the organization's services are delivered effectively and efficiently.
    • Ensure that all significant systems and procedures are in place to meet legal and contractual requirements.
    • Ensure that all significant risks are adequately considered and accounted for by the executive management team.

    • Experience working for a not-for-profit organization or a values-based organization.
  • Leadership and Governance Skills
    • High levels of personal integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of women impacted by domestic violence, homelessness, drug and alcohol dependency.
    • Strong leadership and governance skills, including strategic planning, financial management, and risk management.
  • Communication and Collaboration Skills
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with the CEO, Board members, and staff.
    • Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders, including community members, donors, and partners.
  • Business Acumen
    • Strong business acumen, including financial management, fundraising, and marketing.
    • Ability to analyze complex data and make informed decisions.
