
Exploring Core Competencies for Positive Youth Development

The proposed research project aims to explore the mechanisms and processes of key social and emotional core competencies that can be cultivated in schools, communities, and homes to prevent problem behaviour and mental ill-health. This is an exciting opportunity for a researcher to contribute to the development of systemic and targeted interventions to improve local and global health.
This project will focus on building on Positive Youth Development literature and classical Greek philosophy to examine the relationships between social and emotional learning, cognitive-behavioural factors, and adolescent mental health outcomes. The researcher will have access to Australian, US, and international longitudinal studies, and administrative data sets.
- This research will inform the development of evidence-based strategies for promoting positive youth development and preventing problem behaviour and mental ill-health.
- The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary cohort of researchers and students based at a leading national addiction treatment, training, and research centre.
The supervisory team consists of experienced researchers with expertise in designing and evaluating health behaviour interventions, randomised control trials, and longitudinal studies. They will provide guidance and support throughout the research process.
Eligibility RequirementsThis opportunity is available to domestic and international students who meet the minimum requirements for admission to a PhD program. Applicants should have a strong academic background and relevant research experience.
