Evolving Core Competencies in Adolescent Mental Health

This PhD program focuses on understanding the mechanisms involved in the development and prevention of problem behavior and poor mental health in adolescents and early adults.
The project aims to build on Positive Youth Development (PYD) literature and classical Greek philosophy, examining the role of civic engagement in cultivating essential social and emotional competencies.
The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary cohort of researchers and students based at a leading national addiction treatment, training and research centre in Australia.
The project will utilize Australian, US, and international longitudinal studies to investigate the processes of key social and emotional core competencies that can prevent problem behavior and mental ill-health.
The PhD program is expected to lead to the development of systemic interventions to improve local and global health.
