Aviation Safety Specialist

The Australian Government Department of Defence is seeking a highly skilled Aviation Safety Assurance Officer to join the Directorate of Initial Airworthiness as a key member of the Design Organisation Approval (DOA) team.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct assurance and oversight activities of Military Design Organisations, including the continued airworthiness domain for aircraft design;
- Conduct assurance and oversight activities of Defence Military Production Organisations;
- Evidence sampling and performing assessments of organisational compliance against regulations;
- Assessing applications for various DASA-issued Authorisations.
The Directorate of Initial Airworthiness (DIA) is responsible for providing assurance that safety risks are effectively managed within the Defence aviation capability. As a member of the DIA team, you will contribute to this mission by:
- Promulgating initial airworthiness policy and regulation;
- Certifying Defence aviation systems;
- Overseeing design and production organisations.

RequirementsTo be successful in this role, you will need to possess:
- Professional engineering experience in design, production, or management of safety-critical systems within the aviation industry;
- Knowledge of type certification and initial airworthiness concepts in either a civil or military context;
- Experience in evaluating safety risks and identifying practical solutions;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
