Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Australian Government Department of Defence Full time

The Role
Australian Government Department of Defence is offering an opportunity to join the Directorate of Initial Airworthiness as an Aviation Safety Assurance Officer (ASAO). Working within the Design Organisation Approval (DOA) team, the role is critical in projecting the Authority's assurance function for those organisations that have been approved as either a Military Design Organisation or a Military Production Organisation supporting defence aviation. The role is multi-faceted and requires integration with adjacent product assurance teams within DASA and the regulated community. As a safety assurance officer for the DOA team, you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting assurance and oversight activities of Military Design Organisations including the continued airworthiness domain for aircraft design;
  • Conducting assurance and oversight activities of Defence Military Production Organisations;
  • Evidence sampling and performing assessments of organisational compliance against regulations; and
  • Assessing applications for various DASA-issued Authorisations. Authorisations in the DOA team vary from individuals, organisations and product approvals.
About our Team
Australia's Defence aviation capability is supported by DASA's vision of 'Capability First, Safety Always'. The Directorate of Initial Airworthiness (DIA) provides assurance that safety risks are effectively managed. DIA-DASA contributes to this by:

  • Promulgating initial airworthiness policy and regulation;
  • Certifying Defence aviation systems; and
  • Overseeing design and production organisations.
As an ASAO, your contribution will have a critical bearing on promoting aviation safety outcomes.
