Academic Researcher for Sustainable Waste Management in Northern Australia

Charles Darwin University's Research Institute for Northern Agriculture invites a highly motivated PhD student to contribute to a groundbreaking research project focused on waste management in remote cattle properties of northern Australia.
The researcher will collaborate with industry partners, including Tyre Stewardship Australia and a leading pastoral company, to develop innovative approaches to tackle the challenging issue of problematic waste streams in the region.
Project Overview- This research aims to enhance our understanding of current waste management practices and explore novel solutions to minimize waste, improve efficiency, and sustainability in agricultural enterprises.
- The project also offers the opportunity to complete an industry internship as part of the PhD program, providing valuable experience and professional development.
The researcher will be expected to travel to remote locations in the Northern Territory as part of the project, with the potential to be based in Darwin or Alice Springs. This role presents a unique chance to make a meaningful impact on environmental sustainability and contribute to the development of effective waste management strategies.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research on hard-to-get-rid-of waste from remote cattle properties in northern Australia.
- Collaborate with industry partners to develop innovative solutions for waste management.
- Travel to remote locations in the Northern Territory to conduct fieldwork and gather data.
- A high level of academic merit and research background that meets the RTP Stipend Scholarship requirements.
- A strong ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
- A willingness to travel to remote areas of northern Australia.
- An Australian (or equivalent) driving license or the ability to obtain one soon after starting the PhD.
- A competitive salary of $32,192 per annum (from 2024; indexed annually), plus up to $10,000 per annum top-up for 3 years from commencement.
- The opportunity to work closely with industry partners and undertake an internship as part of the PhD program.
- A flexible location option, with the potential to be based in Darwin or Alice Springs, or anywhere in Australia by negotiation.
