Environmental Researcher: Circular Economy Opportunities in Northern Australia

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our team at Charles Darwin University's Research Institute for Northern Agriculture. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a research project focused on developing novel approaches to manage waste streams in remote northern Australian agricultural enterprises.
About the Project:
Agriculture produces significant amounts of waste, and the industry is keen to adopt sustainable waste management practices. This project aims to understand the issues with used tyres and other hard-to-dispose-of waste from remote northern Australian agricultural enterprises and develop effective solutions.
Your Role:
The successful candidate will work closely with industry partners, including Tyre Stewardship Australia and one of Australia's largest pastoral companies, to conduct research and develop innovative solutions. You will have the opportunity to travel to remote Northern Territory locations as part of the project.
About You:
- You have a strong academic background in science or social science, such as environmental science, sociology, or agricultural science.
- You have excellent research skills and experience working independently.
- You are willing to travel to remote areas of northern Australia and have a valid driving license.
What We Offer:
- A competitive salary of $32,192 per annum (indexed annually) plus up to $10,000 per annum top-up for 3 years.

Essential Criteria:
- Per the RTP scholarship conditions, you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen.
- You have a First-class Honours degree or a Masters degree containing a substantial research component in science or social science.
Supervisory Team:
The supervisory team will consist of Associate Professor Beth Penrose and Dr Deepika Mathur, with the potential for additional industry supervisors.
