Job Opportunity

Seeking an experienced Health and Building Surveyor to join our team. This is a full-time ongoing position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical health and building expertise and advice to the Manager Building and Development, other staff, and the public on health and building related matters.
  • Assess applications and provide statutory certificates as required.
  • Deliver excellent customer service through clear and accurate advice at the front counter, in pre-development application discussions, and general correspondence.
  • Represent the council at meetings and interact with members of the public to guide development within the region and achieve good quality building outcomes.
  • Respond promptly to correspondence regarding environmental health and building issues.
  • Coordinate programs and undertake inspections to ensure the safe handling of food, on-site disposal of waste, and compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Evaluate Council's performance in meeting its commitments under the EPA Act relating to building control.
  • Embody the core values and behavioural requirements of the Workplace Environment Statement.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying.
  • At least one year of experience in Local Government Development Control and Health environment or equivalent.
  • Class C Drivers Licence.
  • Registration (accreditation) as a Building Surveyor - Restricted (Class 1 & 10 Buildings) (A3) or Registration (accreditation) as a Building Surveyor - Restricted (All classes of Buildings) (A2).
  • General Construction Induction Card (White card).
  • Ability to communicate effectively on technical advice and policy issues to internal and external clients.
  • Proven negotiation and conflict resolution skills to achieve satisfactory outcomes.
  • Effective decision making and problem solving techniques/processes.
  • Word processing skills, spreadsheet, and database skills.
