Health and Environmental Specialist

The Health and Building Surveyor plays a pivotal role in providing technical expertise and advice on health and building matters. This position requires a skilled professional who can effectively communicate with stakeholders, including Manager Building and Development, staff, and the public.
The ideal candidate will possess tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying, a minimum of one year's experience in a Local Government Development Control and Health environment, and current registration as a Building Surveyor. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical health and building expertise and advice to Manager Building and Development, staff, and the public.
- Conduct inspections and assessments to ensure Council meets its obligations regarding safe food handling, waste disposal, and legislative requirements.
- Represent Council at meetings and engage with the public to guide development and achieve quality building outcomes.
- Coordinate programs and undertake tasks to ensure Council meets its commitments under the EPA Act.
- Tertiary qualifications (or similar) in Building Surveying.
- Minimum one (1) year's experience in a Local Government Development Control and Health environment (or equivalent).
- Class C Drivers Licence.
- Current registration (accreditation) as a Building Surveyor – Restricted (Class 1 & 10 Buildings) or Current registration (accreditation) as a Building Surveyor - Restricted (All classes of Buildings).
- General Construction Induction Card (White card).
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact at all levels on technical advice and policy issues to internal and external clients.
- Proven ability to perform successful negotiation and conflict resolution to achieve satisfactory outcomes.
- Proven ability in the use of effective decision making and problem solving techniques/processes.
- Proven word processing skills/spreadsheet and database skills.
