Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services Advocate

This position involves providing high-quality legal services, including duty lawyer services, representation, advice, and information in criminal law matters.
About the JobYou will work as part of an integrated team with junior lawyers, senior lawyers, administration staff, and client service officers.
Key Responsibilities:- Represent clients of VALS in various courts, appearing as a senior advocate in criminal matters.
- Deliver quality legal services by conducting casework in criminal law matters, including serious indictable matters.
- Provide emergency advice to members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community through the on-call after-hours roster.
Travel across Victoria to deliver services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Requirements:- At least 3+ years' experience as a legal practitioner, with demonstrated capability to work as an advocate and caseworker in complex matters.
- Ability to supervise, mentor, and train less experienced lawyers and contribute to their development.
- Sound interpersonal skills and the capacity to communicate effectively with members of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
