PhD Researcher: Advancing Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Technology

The world is shifting towards a low-carbon economy, driven by increasing energy demand and the need to reduce CO2 emissions.

This has led to a surge in the development of alternative energy technologies, such as wind and solar power.

However, the intermittent nature of these sources creates challenges for energy supply regulation, making effective and stable energy storage systems essential.

In this context, the integration of large-scale energy storage systems into the grid would significantly improve the reliability, power quality, and economy of renewable energy sources.

To address this challenge, we are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to contribute to the development of advanced materials for vanadium redox flow batteries.

The project will focus on two key areas:

  • Development of thermally stable vanadium electrolytes using advanced additive formulae
  • Materials and methods for probing parasitic side reactions in vanadium redox flow batteries

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Valid and current Australian work rights
  • Meeting participating university PhD admission requirements
  • Meeting university English language requirements
  • Not having previously completed a PhD
  • Ability to commence the program in the year of the offer
  • Enrolling as a full-time PhD student
