OverviewSwinburne University of Technology, in collaboration with the Australian Research Council (ARC) Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation, invites applications for a fully funded PhD scholarship exploring the corrosion of marine piping systems and their interaction with Marine Growth Prevention Systems (MGPS).
This multidisciplinary project sits at the cutting edge of materials science, marine engineering, and applied chemistry, offering an opportunity to contribute to applied research with direct industry impact. You will join a national network of researchers, engineers, and industry leaders and may participate in up to 12 months of industry placement.
This scholarship is a launchpad for a high-impact career at the interface of research, industry, and innovation in maritime corrosion, biofouling, and infrastructure durability. It provides a pathway for a career with national significance and industry connections.
Responsibilities- Plan and carry out experiments related to marine piping corrosion and MGPS interactions.
- Analyse results and share findings with Swinburne and the Defence Science and Technology Group.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and participate in up to 12 months of industry placement.
Applicants must meet Swinburne's PhD program entry requirements.
- Must be eligible for an Australian Defence Security Clearance and comply with ITAR
- Provide a National Police Clearance obtained within the last 3 months
- Detail-oriented with high precision in experimental work
- Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Resilience and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Curiosity and persistence in an academic context
- Experience in field tests or laboratory experiments
- Familiarity with materials science and/or corrosion, particularly related to metals and alloys, including material characterization methods and related chemical solutions
Bachelor's degree with Honours or Master's degree in Materials Engineering, Marine Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
