Chief Engineer, AWS Data Center Engineering Operations

We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Engineer to lead our data center engineering operations in Melbourne. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our data centers, fostering strong relationships with vendors, and providing technical guidance to less-experienced operators.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in an on-call escalation roster across the data center region
- Manage the on-site activities of contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors to ensure compliance with established practices and local legislation
- Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on critical facility infrastructure operations and maintenance
- Generate change management requests and incident management tickets for events managed by DCEO
- Collaborate with DC managers and other business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability, sustainability, and efficiency
- Develop and maintain documentation relevant to business and facility operations
- Install racks and provide power and cooling within constraints
- Review the management of routine maintenance and emergency services for critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc.
- Assist in the design, implementation, commissioning, and build-out of new facilities
- Drive and implement projects to increase current facility capacity, efficiency, sustainability, and reliability
- Manage facility assets and provide infrastructure and inventory asset management
- Attend and participate in regular construction and operational meetings as required
- Familiar with work order compliance to ensure all contractual SLAs are achieved
- Interface with Infra Ops management for day-to-day operational requirements
- Assist in recruiting efforts
- Assist in resolving infrastructure engineering or services issues
- Provide day-to-day technical oversight and guidance to a team of engineering operation technicians
