Job Summary

Laying bricks to fit complex spaces and interpreting building plans are critical responsibilities of this role. As a skilled mason, you will work safely on scaffolds and perform repairs and maintenance on building structures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Laying bricks and shaping them to fit irregular spaces
  • Cutting, shaping and polishing stones and bricks using machines and hand tools
  • Embedding blocks in mortar and removing excess mortar
  • Applying or removing mortar using trowels
  • Using dyes and pigments to color mortar
  • Fastening bricks with wire clamps or cement
  • Mixing mortar powder, sand, clay and water correctly
  • Reading and analyzing building plans and carrying out tasks as per the plans and specifications
  • Interpreting work orders and determining the materials required
  • Sealing foundations with damp-resistant materials
  • Checking building alignment using spirit levels and plumb lines
  • Measuring distance from reference points
  • Repairing and maintaining building structures
  • Constructing walls using stone slabs and large masonry slab blocks
  • Leveling and straightening walls, ceiling surfaces, angles and corners

Requirements

  • Prior experience working commercially as a bricklayer
  • AQF Certificate III in Bricklaying or equivalent qualifications
  • At least 2 years of practical experience
  • A driving license and a vehicle
  • Availability for 7 days a week and willingness to work odd hours (weekends and early morning/late night shifts)
  • Willingness to travel across Victoria to perform work in urban and regional locations
