Tailings Engineer

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a highly skilled Tailings Engineer to join our team at WSP. As a Principal Tailings Engineer, you will play a key role in enhancing our capabilities and reputation in the Mine Waste team.
You will collaborate with talented professionals working on iconic projects to drive future-ready outcomes that benefit clients and communities. Our global team of over 5,200 dedicated mining professionals are supporting the industry to decarbonize mining operations in the accelerating green transition.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Direction: Provide technical direction or provision of input to tailings design studies and related analyses.
- Engineer of Record: Fulfill Engineer of Record and Deputy Engineer of Record roles.
- Liaison and Collaboration: Liaise with specialists from other disciplines or offices within WSP.
- Senior Technical Input: Provide senior technical input to project teams and ensure that appropriate technical standards are developed and maintained.
- Tailings Storage Facility Assessment: Assess and understand credible failure modes and how they apply to specific tailings storage facilities.
- Project Leadership: Provide leadership of multi-disciplinary project teams on local, regional, and international consulting assignments.
- Mentorship and Guidance: Provide technical guidance and mentoring for staff in the regional team and review their project work.
- Client Delivery: Deliver best practice consulting services to clients in Australia and overseas.
- Business Development: Provide recommendations in the area of tailings and mine waste management to clients.
- Client Relationships: Maintain effective client relationships and generate consulting business.
- Business Networking: Build and maintain business networks.
- Project Management: Project management, budgeting, and quality control for tailings, mine waste, heap leach, and similar assignments.
- Qualifications: Bachelor's Qualification in Civil/Mining Engineering or similar.
- Experience: Proven working experience on tailings/mine waste related projects locally or internationally, ideally in a consulting environment.
- Collaboration and Communication: Ability to work independently and within multi-disciplinary project teams.
- License: Hold a current manual driver's license.
- Skills: Balances innovation, quality, and technical excellence with delivery to timelines and cost.
- Flexibility: Flexible to meet project outcomes.
