Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Community Education Counsellor. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing educational counselling and support services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and students across multiple schools.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement effective strategies to enhance the educational participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families.
- Collaborate with school staff to identify and address the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and develop and implement targeted interventions to support their academic success.
- Provide individualised support and guidance to students, and work closely with parents and carers to ensure they feel informed and valued in their child's education.
- Participate in professional learning and development opportunities to build skills and knowledge in areas such as cultural competence, inclusive practice, and trauma-informed care.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- a Bachelor's degree in Education, Counselling or a related field;
- demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and communities;
- strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues;
- ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities;
- highly developed organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing demands;
- ability to use technology, including software applications and online systems, to support teaching and learning.
