Ripley Valley State Secondary College is looking for a passionate and culturally connected Community Education Counsellor (Identified) to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and families. Join our dedicated Student Services Support Team to build strong relationships, promote cultural understanding, and help shape brighter futures.
This position is a Temporary Part-Time capacity (0.6FTE), 43.5 hours per fortnight. Enjoy a three-day work week with flexible working days.
This is a progressional position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the lower classification with eligibility for progression to the next, once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. Please note salary rate shown is reflective of both classification ranges.

Role Outline
The role requires a professional who can work both independently and collaboratively to design and lead school-based interventions, while also engaging regional services and external agencies to strengthen student wellbeing, engagement, and educational outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Provide educational counselling and support services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and students across a number of schools.
- Develop and foster relationships between the school, families and Elders to assist Indigenous students remain engaged with education, training and/or long term employment.
- Participate in the development of activities, in and out of school, likely to enhance the involvement in education of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families.
- Establish and maintain links with out of school sources of information and support services to assist in the advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and students.
- Provide information to the school community about Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander social and cultural perspectives.
- Conduct home visits with students and their families, as appropriate, to advise and provide strategies for a more positive educational experience.
- Be part of the professional team working with the school and liaise with students, teachers, parents, guidance officers, administrative officers, welfare agencies and other government departments.
- Participate in professional networking and professional development.
