**Head of Oncology Government Affairs Role Overview**

GenesisCare is seeking a strategic leader to oversee and lead the newly established Government Affairs function for Oncology Australia. This role will be responsible for ensuring patients gain access to the best possible life outcomes while contributing to the company's growth.

The primary purpose of this role is to develop and implement strategies that reduce barriers to patient access, influence policy and advocacy, educate key external stakeholders, and drive advances in reimbursement and funding frameworks for new and existing oncology treatment techniques.

This role requires a strong understanding of access policy, health economics, outcomes research, and related disciplines. The successful candidate will manage existing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Governments (State and Federal), professional, peak, and industry bodies, as well as key customer & patient advocacy groups.

  • Manage risk: Develop strategies to optimize outcomes in relation to key reimbursement and funding schemes, particularly the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) and Radiation Oncology Health Program Grants (ROHPG) scheme.
  • Create value: Support the renewal or commencement of public private partnerships, develop novel proposals for funding, identify grant and funding programs, and support market access opportunities for new and novel techniques.
  • Influence policy and lead advocacy: Work with colleagues to develop and contribute to policy and advocacy matters, leading submissions on an as-needs basis, and partner with key policy stakeholders to improve oncology awareness.
  • Build corporate reputation: Implement an approach to engaging with decision makers and stakeholders to build our corporate reputation and educate them on the benefits of different modalities of oncology care.
  • Cultivate and maintain key relationships: Build a sophisticated political, policy, and professional network to understand legislative, reimbursement, and access policy positions and priorities.
  • Internal alignment: Inform, convene, and collaborate across internal functions to ensure Government Affairs priorities align with corporate and clinical strategy and needs.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 3-5 years' experience in Market Access, Government Affairs, or a related role.
  • A strong understanding of access policy, health economics, outcomes research, and related disciplines.
  • Well-developed analytical and strategic skills with an entrepreneurial insight and pragmatic approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and engage others to work collaboratively internally and externally to change and accept new ideas.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience liaising, influencing, and negotiating with senior leaders and external government departments.
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity, uncertainty, complexity, and time pressures.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving capability.
  • Proven ability to build consultant-level peer-to-peer relationships with clinicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships.
