Justice Specialist

Role Overview:

The Justice Specialist plays a pivotal role in driving change and improvement within the justice system. Reporting to the Project Director, this position works closely with key stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that address the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct high-quality research and analysis to inform policy and practice decisions affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and the drivers of their involvement in the criminal justice system.
  • Support the development of a comprehensive justice strategy, including monitoring and evaluation frameworks, data sovereignty frameworks, and internal DJAG Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Strategies and Action Plans.
  • Prepare submissions, memorandums, and briefing notes, and provide high-level advice and support as required.
  • Foster positive working relationships with government agencies, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisations, service providers, and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to shaping the strategic direction of Justice Services and the broader justice system, particularly regarding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander justice issues, and build capability across DJAG.
Requirements:
  • Highly developed research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong project management and coordination skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the Queensland Government's policies and initiatives related to justice and Indigenous affairs.
