Job Title: Youth Justice Court Support Specialist

The role of a Youth Justice Court Support Specialist involves providing comprehensive support to young people and their families/carers within the court system.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Undertake thorough pre-court preparation, adhering to established procedures and quality benchmarks, including conducting necessary interviews and assessing risk factors.
  2. Make informed referrals and develop confident court submissions by considering written material and early intervention opportunities.
  3. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, such as Magistrates, Judges, legal representatives, police, and community organisations, to ensure quality court services and positive outcomes for young people and their families/carers.
  4. Provide post-court advice and guidance to young people, families/carers, stakeholders, and relevant youth justice staff, while comprehensively documenting case notes and maintaining office systems.
  5. Contribute to the development of new systems related to court matters, ensuring efficient management of court appearances, timely recording of outcomes, and monitoring of trends and issues.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Possession of a relevant tertiary degree in social work, behavioural science, social science, criminology, legal studies, or other recognised degrees.
  • A strong understanding of Children's Court processes, the Youth Justice Act 1992, and relevant legislation, policies, and practices related to young people, families, and the youth justice system.
  • An understanding of casework within a youth justice framework and a commitment to early intervention principles.
  • A current 'C' Class Driver's license.
