Director of Research Finance

The University of Melbourne is seeking a highly motivated and experienced leader to join our Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (RIC) team as the Director of Research Finance. As a key member of our Office of Research Management, you will be responsible for overseeing the operational and strategic development of research finance functions, ensuring the effective management of research grants and contracts, and providing financial leadership to our research community.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development and implementation of innovative financial processes and systems to support research finance operations
- Manage a team of financial professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure the effective delivery of research finance services
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the University to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and goals
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including researchers, faculty members, and external partners
- Provide financial leadership and guidance to the research community, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations
- Proven experience in research finance leadership, with a strong understanding of research funding models and financial management principles
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and develop effective solutions
- Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across the University, including researchers, faculty members, and external partners
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations, including tax laws and financial reporting requirements
