About the Role

The Infrastructure and Operations Division at Townsville City Council is responsible for managing and maintaining over $6B in infrastructure assets across various portfolios. As a Plant Operator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of plant and trucks, as well as maintaining their condition.

Key Responsibilities
  • Formulate plans of work for individual projects and conduct pre-start and pre-work checks to ensure the safe operation of plant and trucks.
  • Exercise responsibility for the maintenance and condition of trucks and plant, including routine condition inspections, reporting of faults or breakdowns, secure storage, cleaning, and minor maintenance and repairs.
About You

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plant Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A current HC Drivers Licence and experience with the ability to level tolerances.
  • Plant Operators' Certificates of Competency for the types and classes of plant utilised in this position.
  • Experience in the operation of a range of plant, including road rollers, skid steers, backhoes, and mini excavators.
  • Year 10 Certificate or proficient literacy and numeracy skills to a standard commensurate with the requirements of this position.
  • Certificate associated with the successful completion of the Safe Working Near Live Exposed Parts training course.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks to achieve set outcomes and create effective working relationships to ensure team objectives are met.
  • Knowledge and experience in the efficient and safe operation of heavy rigid vehicles and other items of plant, including servicing requirements and pre-start checks, and basic mechanical knowledge associated with day-to-day maintenance of plant and trucks.
  • Basic knowledge of construction and maintenance practices associated with the development and maintenance of municipal infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Aus-Spec, Australian Standards, Load Restraint Guide, Work Health and Safety legislative requirements, Quality Assurance procedures, and all other relevant standards, guidelines, and codes in the operation of heavy vehicles in a civil construction/local government environment.
