Research in ion channels has become increasingly prominent, with advancements in computational methods leading to a deeper understanding of their molecular mechanisms.

About the Project

This postdoctoral research opportunity focuses on investigating the hERG potassium ion channel using advanced molecular dynamics simulations.

Objectives

The project aims to describe the inactivation and drug modulation mechanisms for the hERG channel by employing cutting-edge computational approaches.

This will be achieved through collaboration with researchers at renowned institutions, utilizing supercomputers alongside structural and functional experiments.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting atomistic simulations of membrane protein systems, particularly focusing on ion channels and potassium channels.

Experience with NAMD/VMD and CHARMM is highly desirable, as well as expertise in replica methods and advanced analysis techniques such as Markov State Modelling.

Requirements
  1. A PhD in physics, physical chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
  2. A strong research background in computation in biophysics, condensed matter physics, or physical chemistry.
  3. Experience in statistical mechanical theory and molecular dynamics simulations for biophysical problems.
  4. Possess strong skills in supercomputing using CPUs and GPUs, programming/scripting in a Unix environment, and MD scripting for advanced simulations and analysis.
  5. Demonstrate ability to work effectively with experimental collaborators and contribute to high-impact publications.
