  • Design and construct prototype detectors, experimentally determine their characteristics, and optimize the design in our suite of laboratories.
  • Evaluate the performance of prototypes in their ultimate environment using beam time on an ISIS instrument.
  • Carry out experimental programs, with hands-on experimental responsibilities and data analysis tasks.
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement.
  • Required or have requested to take an industrial placement year.
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement.
  • Able to commence employment in summer 2025.
  • Studying for a degree in physics or another physics-related degree.
  • Ability to work independently and engage in self-motivated learning.
  • Enjoy problem-solving and pursuing an experimental development program.
  • Able to analyze data and draw conclusions.
  • Demonstrate scientific computing-related skills.
  • Have good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Be willing to work with ionizing radiation.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Have knowledge of ionizing radiation detectors.
  • Have experience using test equipment for processing electronic signals, such as oscilloscopes.
  • Demonstrate an extra-curricular interest in experimental physics.
