Design Manager Position Overview

Beca is seeking a senior Defence Design Management Professional to join our team. As a Design Manager, you will be responsible for managing the design team and ensuring that the overall design intent and direction is upheld throughout the planning and delivery phases.


The ideal candidate will have a background in managing multidisciplinary design teams with a focus on the Defence Estate. They will also have an understanding of Defence's design requirements, approaches and standards, as well as strong attention to detail and exceptional communication skills.

  • Manage the design team, including all design, design-related, and documentation activities.
  • Ensure that the overall design intent and direction is upheld throughout the planning and delivery phases.
  • Coordinate design inputs, design program, design deliverables and project communications across the project.
  • Develop and deliver to a detailed Design Program outlining all required activities, tasks and critical milestones.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Appropriate tertiary qualification aligned to engineering, architecture, or related discipline.
  • Background in managing multidisciplinary design teams with a focus on the Defence Estate.
  • Australian Government Security Clearance at Baseline level or higher (or possess the ability to obtain), for which you will require Australian Citizenship.
  • Understanding of Defence's design requirements, approaches and standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional communication skills.
  • Positive and tenacious attitude with an ability makes things happen.
