Position Overview

In the role of Infection Control and Prevention Coordinator, you will offer clinical guidance and mentorship to our care teams throughout the Shoalhaven region. Reporting directly to the Head of Infection Prevention and Control, you will spearhead infection control initiatives for a dedicated team of aged care professionals.

This part-time position involves working across multiple sites within the Shoalhaven area, specifically at various aged care facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the execution of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols across designated aged care centers, serving as the primary contact for guidance.
  • Exhibit clinical expertise while mentoring staff, fostering a culture of excellence in infection prevention practices.
  • Conduct regular assessments of current practices, formulate improvement recommendations, and collaborate with local management teams for implementation.
  • Access, promote, and contribute to the development of IPC policies, procedures, and Outbreak Management Plans, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practices.
  • Provide expert knowledge on IPC and disease management, tailoring recommendations to the specific needs of each aged care center.
  • Oversee the management of infections and related incidents, ensuring compliance with organizational and governmental standards.
  • Perform relevant Work Health & Safety (WHS) functions, including reporting infection-related hazards and participating in WHS consultations.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Educator to uphold high standards of education and competency regarding infection control among staff.
  • Develop and maintain key partnerships essential for the role's success, including external stakeholders such as Public Health and Local Health District.
  • Work collaboratively with Clinical, Quality, and Learning & Development Teams to integrate IPC practices into organizational frameworks.
  • Coordinate outbreak responses, including meetings and post-outbreak debriefs.
  • Participate in the local Infection Prevention and Control Committee, providing reports on infection control issues and implementing interventions as identified.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and undertake additional duties as assigned by the Head of Infection Prevention and Control.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse, with substantial post-basic nursing experience.
  • Completion of ICC training and COVID-19 infection control online modules.
  • Immunization certification and completion of aged care modules.
  • Enrollment in a suitable IPC training course as mandated.
  • Strong understanding of infection prevention principles and outbreak management.
  • Ability to interpret Infection Control and Waste Management Standards and develop related policies.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • High-level written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
