Strategic Disaster Management Leader

The Queensland Police Service is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Disaster Planning Strategist to enhance situational awareness systems across the disaster management sector.
Engaging across local, state and commonwealth government agencies, private sector and with district and local disaster management capabilities, the successful candidate will contribute towards a collaborative approach to data sharing and stakeholder relationships.
In a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment, the Disaster Planning Strategist delivers high quality planning products and advice to contribute towards a successful Whole of Government response to Queensland communities affected by crises.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and coordinate high level projects to develop and maintain an operational planning capability contributing to the development of specific planning products prior to and during activations, enhancing accurate situational awareness for decision makers.
- Lead and manage teams within a dynamic work environment fostering teamwork and managing financial and human resource activities including developing and managing staff performance and providing feedback.
- Lead and manage the development, implementation and evaluation of scientifically based and local community relevant disaster risk management data, systems, tools, and platforms.
- Research, analyse and provide advice relating to emergency management plans, policy, and procedures to identify and monitor trends and issues contributing to quality decision making across all hazards.
- Lead and contribute to the collaborative identification and assessment, development, use and evaluation of Situation Awareness tools and products.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders regarding policy, procedures and/or issues relating to volunteers and emergency management planning ensuring business objectives are achieved.
- Research, prepare and review reports, submissions and other correspondence on complex and confidential issues in relation to emergency management planning and capability.
- Represent QPS on internal and external committees, working groups and exercises on a diverse range of business improvement issues relating to emergency management planning.
Role Requirements:
- Knowledge and/or experience or qualifications in Disaster management and operations in a decentralised service delivery environment.
Other:
- Capacity to support operational duties during disaster events. This may require work outside of normal hours, including weekends, extended hours and may include deployment to other parts of the State.
