Job Opportunity

Become a Biosecurity Professional on a permanent basis in the Gisborne region.

The biosecurity surveillance team provides services to protect New Zealand against exotic pests and diseases, offering an opportunity to be on the frontline of this battle.

In this position, you will:

  • Undertake pest plant control and ecological restoration programs for various customers, including the Waingake Transformation Programme in Gisborne, working alongside Maraetaha Inc and Gisborne District Council.
  • Provide protection at high-risk sites such as farms, sea-ports, airports, and transitional facilities.
  • Report on data and auditing for your region.
  • Respect Maori culture and encourage its practice in our roles.
  • Assist with biosecurity surveillance and response tasks when required for various programs, including Fruit Fly Surveillance & National Interest Pest Response (NIPR).

This is a full-time (40 hour per week) permanent job, involving flexible hours over 5 days per week within Monday to Saturday. Flexible start and end times. Based in Gisborne.

About You

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Be physically fit and able to walk for long periods of time.
  • Able to use phone apps and computer technology.
  • Respect other cultures.
  • Have a can-do attitude and great work ethic.
  • Previous experience in Biosecurity is highly desirable but not essential.
  • A full, clean New Zealand drivers license is desired but not essential.
