About the Role

We are seeking a Biosecurity Officer to join our Cargo Operations team in Melbourne. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting and clearing various cargo commodities, assessing import documentation, and providing timely and accurate advice on complex biosecurity matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and clear cargo commodities, including fresh produce, machinery, and used vehicles
  • Assess import documentation to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and policy
  • Manage goods that do not comply with import requirements and capture information to support evidence-based decisions
  • Provide timely and accurate advice on complex biosecurity matters to employees, stakeholders, and senior managers
  • Resolve complex operational and technical matters
  • Identify trends in biosecurity risks and escalate these to assist in targeting intelligence and risk-based activities
  • Manage compliance with appropriate standards of behaviour in line with departmental expectations

Requirements:

  • Australian motor vehicle driver's license
  • Ability to perform occasional out-of-hours and weekend work
  • Willingness to wear official uniform and personal protective equipment
  • Travel to regional areas and ability to drive extensively for inspection locations
  • Successful completion of the department's Biosecurity Foundation Program
