About the Role:
This position involves leading the Student Support Services Team, providing professional learning opportunities, and ensuring the school's wellbeing policies align with Department of Education guidelines. You will also be responsible for mentoring new team members, promoting effective practices, and contributing to the development of wellbeing programs and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Consultation:
- Advise and guide staff on student wellbeing, mental health, and engagement.
- Lead the Student Support Services Team, triaging referrals, and guiding improvements based on school strategies.
- Provide professional development opportunities, including organizing external consultants and advising on critical incidents and wellbeing practices.
- Ensure the school's wellbeing policies align with values and Department of Education guidelines.
- Mentor and support the wellbeing team, assisting new members and promoting effective practices.
- Student Support:
- Conduct psychological assessments, create reports, and develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) for students.
- Address student protection issues, mental health incidents, and provide counselling and crisis management.
- Collaborate with external agencies, staff, and school leaders to support students' academic and personal success.
- Maintain detailed case notes and provide data on student wellbeing to leadership.
- Wellbeing Programs and Intervention:
- Coordinate wellbeing programs focusing on resilience, attendance, and behavior.
- Deliver programs addressing issues like anxiety, grief, or contemporary topics.
- Collaborate with staff, external agencies, and students to create and implement wellbeing initiatives.
- Lead school-wide events and programs like RUOK Day and Breakfast/Lunch clubs.
- Other Duties:
- Uphold the school's values of collaboration, respect, and responsibility.
- Undertake other duties relevant to the field of responsibility as requested by the College Executive.
- This position involves a broad range of responsibilities related to student wellbeing, staff support, crisis management, and program development.
About You:
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled education support staff member who can contribute to the success of our high-achieving secondary school. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a strong understanding of psychology principles, and experience in developing and implementing wellbeing programs and strategies.
Selection Criteria:
- SC1: Demonstrated knowledge and expertise regarding the provision of psychology services reflecting evidence-based practices and their application within an educational environment.
- SC2: Ability to provide leadership and professional learning that informs and influences the work of others involved in the engagement and wellbeing of children and young people.
- SC3: Demonstrated ability to lead a multi-faceted team and contribute significantly to the achievements of the team, fostering effective relationships with external agencies and service providers.
- SC4: Substantial experience in the development and implementation of programs and strategies that foster resilience in children and address their social, emotional, and educational needs.
- SC5: Demonstrated high-level organisational, communication, and inter-personal skills, including the ability to work effectively with young people, parents/carers, teachers, and school leaders.
- SC6: Demonstrated ability to effectively navigate unexpected challenges, demonstrating flexibility and resilience in meeting the evolving needs and circumstances of the school environment.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be qualified as a psychologist.
- Applicants must hold full registration with AHPRA.
- Demonstrated direct counselling experience.
- A current Working With Children Check.
