Team Leader Investigations

The Law Society of NSW is currently seeking a Team Leader to join our Investigations team in Sydney's CBD. This is a full-time permanent role with a hybrid working model.

About The Role

As the Team Leader, Investigations you will supervise a small legal team responsible for investigating and resolving complaints against solicitors under Chapters 3 and 5 of the Legal Profession Uniform Law 2015 NSW. You will work closely with our existing Team Leaders and their teams.

About The Team

The Professional Standards Division (PSD) investigates complaints about solicitors and unqualified persons referred by the Legal Services Commissioner or made directly. In addition to investigations, the PSD provides services and assistance to members through provision of general advice, ethics guidance, costs assistance, and regulatory support. The Department also has an educational role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of investigators as they manage and resolve complaints under the Legal Profession uniform Law, including advising and assisting team members on matter management; overseeing team resources; reviewing and monitoring team functions and responsibilities, including performance appraisals of team members; and active case management.
  • Conduct expeditious analysis and investigation of disclosures and complaints, drafting relevant notices.
  • Examine, investigate, research, report, and make recommendations on disclosures and complaints.
  • Collect and obtain evidence to support prosecution or advice provided by the Litigation section as necessary.
  • Liaise with complainants, solicitors, the Professional Conduct Committee, Council, the Legal Services Commissioner, and his staff.
  • Engage actively in the Department, including legislative and legal development.
  • Manage active cases and practice.
  • Assist with managing the Delegations Register.
  • Support creation and management of systems for reporting to OLSC.
Requirements
  • Full time permanent role with a hybrid working model.
  • 35 hour working week with a hybrid working model.
  • Located in Martin Place in the heart of Sydney's CBD.
