The Senior Investigator, Oversight leads a team of investigators who are actively involved in reviewing and providing analysis of investigations conducted by the NSW Police Force and the NSW Crime Commission in order to determine whether the investigative process undertaken is legally and procedurally sound, and that the outcomes of the investigation are supported by evidence.

The Senior Investigator Inspections and Monitoring is part of the Oversight division, responsible for keeping under scrutiny the misconduct systems and processes established by the NSW Police Force and the NSW Crime Commission, for dealing with misconduct matters. The role is responsible for conducting targeted inspections and real-time monitoring of complex and sensitive misconduct investigations conducted by the NSW Police Force and the NSW Crime Commission. This includes determining whether the investigative processes undertaken by those agencies are legally and procedurally sound, and that the outcomes of the investigation are objective and supported by evidence.

There are 2 X temporary roles available upto 6-12 months.

Eligibility

  • To be eligible to apply for this role you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident and have a valid Australian driver licence.
  • Serving or former sworn officers of the NSW Police Force are ineligible to apply for this role.

Essential Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical understanding of Law Enforcement policy, practice, procedures and culture.
  • Demonstrated superior attention to detail and the ability to apply legislative provisions, policy frameworks and relevant legal concepts to real case scenarios.
  • Demonstrated high level oral and written English communication skills and the proven ability to communicate effectively with high level management staff.
  • The ability to lead, mentor and supervise staff and to promote positive team dynamics to achieve organisational goals.
  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Government Investigations (desirable).

Security vetting

  • The successful applicant will undergo a stringent national security clearance assessment up to the Negative Vetting 1 Level.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the process of reviewing often complex and sensitive misconduct investigations conducted by the NSW Police Force and the NSW Crime Commission, ensuring that the investigations are legally sound and that they have been conducted in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Plan, lead and coordinate investigations into the manner in which the NSW Police Force and the NSW Crime Commission investigate misconduct matters.
  • Lead, coach and develop team members in the execution of the Investigator, Oversight role.
  • Carry a caseload of more complex and sensitive investigations. This role will have primary carriage of such matters and will appropriately delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members.
